Dick's Rash: The Up, Down & Around
Dick's Rash is a documentary about Richard Kresser's ambitious attempt to become the first person to summit and circumnavigate Mt. Rainier, Mt. Adams, Mt. St. Helens and Mt. Hood, back-to-back and solo. Rich hoped to complete the 247-mile trek, and climb and descend the 148,000' adventure in less than a week by forgoing as much sleep as possible and by using ultra-light gear along his journey.
I️ find few things more gratifying than having a concept float into my consciousness “can I️ make something happen?” and then realizing the idea. Whether it’s a vacation, creative project, present or running adventure, figuring out a path to reality always feels amazing.
This is how the idea of running the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim to Rim came together. A few weeks prior I monitored weather conditions and got beta from runners who recently visited the national park. Retired after fifty years of work in law enforcement and education, what else does my father do in retirement but section hike the Appalachian Trail. I filmed this video during a four-day trek we did together over Memorial Day Weekend and logged 32 miles on the Connecticut AT.
The aptly-named Cactus to Clouds Trail has the distinction of ascending the most altitude in a single trail in the U.S. The run starts from near-sea level of Palm Springs and climbs over 10,000' over 18 miles to the summit of San Jacinto Peak.
To promote BECU's bi-annual financial document shredding event, I wrote the 1980 monster truck rally ad-inspired script, performed the voiceover and directed this silly promotional video. While humorous, the feature did hit home on why BECU provides this service—to protect the financial information of our members.
